Kelim Mini Flag Rug

Brand : Asplund

Designer : Thomas Sandell

Hand Woven rugs. Honouring their Nordic heritage, Asplund create contemporary furniture in collaboration with celebrated Swedish designers and architects. Their simple, versatile and high quality designs make for considered, functional living and working.

A modern interpretation of a classic woven Kelim carpet in 100% wool. The pattern is inspired by traditional Turkish designs and features a triangular ‘flag’ pattern. Part of the collection ‘A Turkish Love Affair’.

“At a stroll though the bazaars of Istanbul I realised a fact; patterns and colours in Turkish carpets show a huge similarity to our own traditional Swedish heritage. Maybe the Vikings in their time brought our design culture to this part of the world or vice versa? I have, as a present day Viking, interpreted the heritage of the Turkish carpet” says Thomas Sandell.

Asplund is a Swedish design company who sees furniture as objects of art. Asplund was founded in 1990 by Michael Asplund, originally an art dealer, and his brother Thomas Asplund, a former banker. Their contrasting backgrounds brought fresh attitude and ideas to the Swedish design scene. Besides design and production, the brothers run the Stockholm-based Asplund Gallery, which has become a lively arena for contemporary Swedish design. Besides Swedish designers, Asplund has collaborated with various international designers including Tom Dixon, Jasper Morrison and Marc Newson. Despite its innovative and international approach, Asplund also believes in traditions and the quality of local production; the majority of its collections are still manufactured in Sweden.
