Description

The Result chair, designed by Friso Kramer and Wim Rietveld for Ahrend in the 1950s, has been relaunched by Hay in collaboration with Ahrend. A simplistic combination of sleek steel frame and curved plywood seat and back, Result was regarded in the 50s as a masterpiece in the innovative use of sheet steel, and it has maintained its fresh appearance until today. Thanks to its light and functionalist design, Result used to be a popular chair in Scandinavian schools, and it has been widely used in both public and private contexts. Framer and Rietveld created the Result chair as a pair for the Pyramid table, which makes a perfect match for the chair. Result is available in several different combinations of base colours and wood finishes.

Wim Rietveld (1924–1985) was a Dutch designer and son of the notable architect and designer Gerrit Rietveld. Like his father, Wim Rietveld carried on the tradition of groundbreaking furniture design. In the 1950s, Rietveld studied industrial design at the Hague Academy, and like many designers of the post-war era, he focused on functional minimalism with easily accessible materials. Rietveld became famous for his stackable furniture and creating functional solutions for mass production. He also worked as the Head of Industrial Design at the University of Delft. Rietveld’s 1407 armchair won the gold medal at the 10th Milan Trienalle, and several of his designs, such as the Result chair and the Pyramid collection, have won the Signe d’Or award.

Hay

HAY was founded in 2002. This marked the beginnings of the international ambition that HAY has pursued over the past decade: creating durable quality furniture at affordable prices to allow as many people as possible to enjoy excellent design. HAY looks back with pride at the age of Danish Modern, where quality, craftsmanship and humanistic design put Denmark on the global map, and they look with excitement to the future as they explore the current possibilities inherent in new technologies, new materials and new ways of living with furniture. At the heart of everything that HAY does is the notion that contemporary design should spring from a good idea, innovative technology and quality materials in combination with joyful, straightforward and uncomplicated aesthetics.
